Although I’m not officially a pilot, due to my bad eyesight, I’m an awesome copilot for Mike. I can do flight and fuel planning, handle all radio communication with ATC, assess radar weather, troubleshoot emergencies and program the flight deck like nobody’s business. I’m also the mistress of the checklist – constantly making sure every step from preflight to final descent and shutdown is done in an orderly fashion.
Mike is an incredible pilot, well trained from his Air Force Vietnam days, not to mention Braniff Airlines. He’s always kept a current private pilot’s license, and has thousands of hours in the saddle. Smart, observant and an astute problem solver.
- Brushing up our skills with three days of flight training. Each day was half classroom and half hands on in-plane training.
- Our good friend and talented test pilot, Sean Van Hatten, dissecting the engine schematic.
- Mike did his maneuvers (including recovery from unusual attitudes) with a test pilot in the right seat and me in the back. We were both a little queasy before it was over!
- Mike and I avoid distractions by putting our iPhones in airplane mode.
- Eyes wide open for this presentation!
- Flight training with my favorite pilot! Thank you #aint_onmyrocker for the awesome photo!
