The Black Hills of South Dakota were chilly with snow flurries. Fortunately our snowmobile had heated seats, heated handlebars and heated hand holds for the back seat. It also had a built in GPS! We drove it so hard that we had to pull over and pack snow around the engine housing to prevent it from overheating.
- We landed in KRAP! That’s the airport code for Rapid City.
- Dang – cold AND windy!
- This is a great place to stay – nice restaurant and plenty of toys (snowmobiles or ATVs) nearby.
- Warming up by the fire – we had ALL our layers on.
- This is the photo at the start – so they can identify the bodies. Those orange parkas were from our trip to Antarctica!
- Roughlock Falls was frozen – you could still hear the water moving underneath the ice.
- Apparently Kevin Costner was roughing it only ten minutes from the hotel.
- “nuff said!
- We wandered into Wyoming for the not-so-busy Buckhorn Bar.
- Why are we smiling????
- They don’t ask nice in Wyoming.
- Yikes! Anything you want to eat, as long as it’s deep fried.
- Never had a table under the taxidermy and next to the Men’s room. We had hot chicken chili. Later that afternoon we were warned not to eat here. Oops 😬
- We snowmobiled into Idaho for Lower Mesa Falls, a spectacular 65ft. waterfall on the Henrys Fork River.
- Nice little warming huts are available. Extra insulation provided by the port-a-potties.
- Mike tending the warming hut fire – such a tiny stove, but it was perfect.
- Made friends in our warming hut with Diane from Minnesota, who was cooking up her venison brats.
