The historic mountain town of Julian is known for many things: the gold rush, fresh air, tall trees, a quaint downtown and the ever present risk of wildfire. But ask just about anyone what’s the first thing they think of with the mention of Julian and the answer is usually the same. PIE!!!
- Julian overflows with everything apple-icious — except Julian apples. The apple pie demand far exceeds the supply, so they import LOTS of apples.
- Because of the pandemic, no pie by the slice was available. We had to quality control an entire apple mountain berry pie!
- We called my brother Mike at the last minute, and brought him a pecan pie. Nice to see him and Cindy – we even dropped the masks for a minute!
- This mural of Charles Lindbergh used to be at the San Diego Airport, because San Diego based Ryan Aircraft built the Spirit of St. Louis. It now graces Ramona, CA… on the way to Julian.

- A future Matisse? Gaugin? Love artists painting live landscapes.
