A grand circle Jeep trip from Glenwood Springs to Crested Butte and Gunnison, then back up to Aspen over a few days. Late September has to be the perfect time to catch these aspen trees in all their glory. It was truly breathtaking!
- We kept pulling over for gorgeous spots like this.
- The top of Hagerman Pass, where rainwater has to run one way or the other.
- Stunning Independence Pass.
- Breathing in the thin air at the top of Independence Pass.
- Crystal Mill powerhouse was built in 1892, cleverly using a water turbine to run an air compressor for power tools used in mining. Now it just poses as one of the most lovely historic spots in Colorado.
- A chilly little boat ride on the lake.
- Stunning even in the blazing midday sun.
- Trying to “rock climb” with my wonky knee.
- Now that’s a tricycle! Looks like they use this for parades in Crested Butte.
- So many views along the road just took your breath away.
- First – what is a “Coke Oven?” It’s not where Coca-Cola comes from. The coke ovens in Redstone were built in 1899 by Colorado Fuel and Iron to burn impurities out of coal. This created something called “coking coal,”which could be used in steel mills to create steel, much of which was used for building railroads.
- The long and winding road.
