After only a ten minute flight from Denver, we landed at Granby Airport to try out the 100 year-old family owned C Lazy U Ranch. At 7,935 ft., the weather is a quite a bit cooler here, but the intensity of the sun makes up for it.
- On our first ride, my horse Duncan spotted a KILLER deer in the woods and was so spooked he bucked me off. First time I ever fell off a horse!
- Cowboy and cowgirl taking a break.
- Trying to look the part… but I’m way too clean.
- Mike easily finessing Hoss through a criss cross routine. These skills came in handy later in the woods.
- The “jingle” is the roundup from the pasture to the stables and back every day, with 200 horses!
- Horses out to pasture in a Rocky Mountain postcard.
- Tilly is one of the branch mascots, a Sicilian miniature donkey. Friendly, but very dusty!
- Slow smoked brisket on polenta with pomegranate sauce? Wow. Chef Corey is a new and solid addition to the team.
- A sample menu from dinner. Yum!
- Cowboy coffee straight from the campfire.
- We were required to wear masks while getting on and off horses due to the pandemic. Mike looks like a real desperado!
- My horse, Sage, stopping to have a nice scratch on one of the many beautiful aspen trees.
- A lope is a slow gallop (a true gallop is only done by racehorses). After days of instruction, I successfully loped even while Sage was sneezing!
- Breakfast at the ranch. OK, we had omelettes.
- Those dramatic Colorado afternoon spring storms came in every afternoon.
- Waving goodbye from the ranch entrance on our last day.
- Ha! This is why we don’t line dance.
- Yee hah!
