With Sue in Scotland, Mike took a 55 mile hike from the south to the north end of Olympic National Park with Wildland Trekking. On an eight day trip – only three days of rain!
- Fresh legs at the beginning of the North Fork of the Quinault River.
- Olympic National Park is a rainforest, as indicated by both the moss and the backpack covers!
- The Olympic Torrent Salamander makes a guest starring appearance.
- 71 years old and still enjoying a great hike!
- Not mushrooms, but shelf fungus, hard as wood.
- Time for a lunch break. We hiked about 8 hours a day.
- Put Mike in a prone position and he’s down for the count. No mattress necessary.
- Peeling bark off a madrona tree.
- One of several scenic lakes for relaxation.
- Talk about a beautiful hike. Soft moss cushions both the feet and the sounds of nature.
- Once upon a time, Mike started a forest fire here. Now THAT’S a long story about Lake Mills. Now that the Elwha dam is gone, so is the evidence.
- Finding fresh water to filter is no problem in the Olympics.
