This is definitely our “bear” summer. We saw plenty in Jasper National Park!
- The land of the midnight sun. This photo was taken at 9pm!
- Lac Beauvert (Beautiful Green Lake) just next to the Jasper Park Lodge. There’s a lovely trail around the lake, but we don’t recommend taking any food with you. We did see a bear!
- A black bear watching us hike at 7am.
- Believe it or not, sometimes we do sit very still and just enjoy nature.
- In 1953, Marilyn Monroe was in Jasper with Joe DiMaggio. That was the year “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” was released. Diamonds were indeed a girl’s best friend a year later, when she and DiMaggio were married.
- The Jasper Sky Tram flew us up 7,424 feet, swinging high over the treeline. See the cleared path through the trees? That’s in case a rescue is needed.
- We hiked up to Whistlers Mountain. THIS is how much I love Canada!
- What incredible views of the Canadian Rockies from here.
- O Canada! We stand on guard for thee!
- Sounds like “Moline” but so much prettier.
- When Kodak introduced color film, they called it “Colorama”, and chose the iconic Spirit Island on Maligne Lake in Jasper as the subject for their 1960 ad. Apple also used it in 2014 to promote the iPad.
- The island today is still a spiritual place for the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors.
- This little cub was mighty curious as he crossed the road. We waived and pointed to the driver of this truck to make sure he knew that the cub was still there.
- So I hiked up Tangle Creek, and didn’t even trip. Amazing!
- I can see clearly now, the rain has gone. I can see all obstacles in my way.
- This little cub scampered right in front of our car. One day, we saw seven bears while we were driving.
- The melting Athabasca Glacier, part of the Columbia Ice field, in the Canadian Rockies. The glacier is a surviving remnant of the thick ice mass that once mantled Western Canada’s mountains. Due to the warming climate, the glacier has receded almost a mile in the past 125 years and lost over half of its volume.
- The last time we visited this glacier, we were on a flat surface. Now the glacier hike is at an incline. Still beautiful, but oh so sad.
- Does anyone see a good view around here?
- Mike taking in the intoxicating sound of rushing water. Breathing in the ozone released by the water is great for your health.
- Moraine Lake is very close to Lake Louise, so beautiful and so not crowded.
- Bing Crosby enjoyed golf at Jasper Lodge. Not sure about the live bear in this photo. They didn’t have photoshop, but they might have had a handler.
- We were warned while playing that a bear had been spotted on the course. From time to time, golfers have to skip a hole…
- The bears at Jasper Park Lodge are so friendly, they know how to high five!
