New York is of course hopping with a lot more than theater. Our Seattle Theater Group also toured Carnegie Hall and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. We even squeezed in a little time for the Veterans Day Parade, quite the big event here!
- Carnegie Hall! I sang here during my Pacific Lutheran University Choir of the West days.
- The Beatles rocked the Carnegie Hall stage in their early days. So early that the program says “John McCartney”. Note that Paul signed right over that!
- A visit to New York is not complete without visiting the official Soup Nazi.
- The beautiful art deco base of the Hearst Corporation, built in 1928.
- Although it’s LEED certified and won lots of awards, the skyscraper built atop that same Hearst Art Deco base is jarring.
- We toured Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater with our group. Judith Jamison, former artistic director, is memorialized here with a larger than life mosaic.
- Alvin Ailey’s prestigious faculty trains 3,500 aspiring dancers annually.
- Vietnam Veterans celebrating the day.
- 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of WWI.
