South Africa does not disappoint in the adrenaline junkie category.
- Bucket list: Shark Cage Diving! We are in Mossel Bay, on the southern coast of South Africa.
- Six people at a time climb into a cage next to the boat. No SCUBA tanks, no snorkel tube. Just hold your breath, duck down and look through your goggles. Gasp for air, scream and repeat.
- A yummy fish head provided the alluring lure.
- “Shark at your 2 o’clock position! Get down and WATCH YOUR FINGERS!”
- The view from below. Adrenaline chills combined with cold water made my teeth chatter for half an hour after our dive.
- Mike is all smiles next to the shark diver cage now that we’re done.
- Nice kitties, sleepy kitties. Not drugged, just genuinely napping, unaware of the looming threat behind them.
- The photographer asked us to kiss. Mike still has one eye on the lions.
- Check out those canines.
- Mike taking Mandaba for a river walk.
- Elephant skin is wrinkled for a reason. Water caught in the wrinkles during a bath evaporates more slowly. So wrinkles are cool.
- An elephant’s front legs support far more weight than the rear legs. At ease, elephant.
- An alpha male baboon gallops across the 18th hole at the Conrad Hilton Knysna, our home base for the Garden Route.
- Tsk! Tsk! Naughty baboons.
- Cute baby, but baboons can form aggressive troupes. In Knysna, they break into homes and businesses, wreaking havoc.
