The Daughters of the American Revolution is a US women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, genealogy, education, and honoring the patriots of the Revolutionary War. We were nominated for and awarded a Washington State Conservation Award, because of our donation to the National Park Foundation. - Mike receiving an award from the Washington State DAR Regent for his service in Vietnam. DAR is making a special effort in 2017 to recognize Vietnam veterans.
- Mike had the room in the palm of his hand as he thanked them for his Vietnam award. He denied any heroics, explaining his military service as a cargo pilot. He admitted it was hard to come out of his mandatory service to a culture that was so hostile toward the Vietnam war. He truly appreciated being thanked.
- We both received a conservation award for our donation to Olympic and Mt. Rainier National Parks, presented by the President General, Vice President General and State Regent.
- I explained how our paid work crews are out on the trail, rain or shine, during the summer, to clean up trails and enhance the National Parks. For many, it’s a life changing, sometimes career changing, experience.
- After party, including the Vice President General (aka Mom) ! There are only 13 Vice President Generals in the nation, representing the 13 colonies. They are elected for life, in appreciation for a lifetime of service to the DAR.
