Our annual fundraiser was amazing, because we met Steve Pemberton, who climbed out of a foster care system that had forgotten about him, and became a success against all odds. In 2015, Pemberton was awarded the prestigious Horizon Award by the US Congress, presented to private sector individuals who have contributed to expanding opportunities for Americans through their own personal contributions, and who have set exceptional examples for young people through their successes in life. A Chance in the World is the unbelievably true story of this wounded and broken boy who was destined to become a man of resilience, determination, and vision. One of the best keynote speakers we’ve ever heard, he had the crowd alternately laughing and in tears.
- Steve Pemberton, our keynote, is the Chief Diversity Officer for Walgreens.
- Steve Pemberton with the dynamic Dr. Lisa Chinn, new President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of King County.
- Chatting it up with our friend and LunchBreak chair Dave Remer, who runs the ever fearless marketing agency, remerinc.
- VIP reception at Dave and Candace Remer’s penthouse in Seattle.
- At only one and a half years old, a social worker wrote in Steve Pemberton’s file that “He does’t have a chance in the world”. This book is proof that he succeeded.
- Great attendance! These people raised over half a million dollars for Boys & Girls Clubs of King County.
