We tied up to a different jungle riverbank every night, and had lots of interaction with real Amazonians. Villages are small, and tightly knit. They seemed content. We didn’t hear any whiny kids.

Rubber used to be king in the Amazon, until it was transplanted to more easily accessible plantations. Now 90% of rubber comes from Asia.

Kayaking – we always made sure we got back to the boat before what I called, “bug thirty”.
