America’s newest National Park, Pinnacles was designated by President Obama in 2013. They say Pinnacles is most beautiful from March to May when the flowers are blooming, but we found the fall hiking delightful at 70 degrees for a couple of days.
- We would have gladly paid admission, but it was Veteran’s day so all National Parks were free!
- Heading into the caves.
- NPS photo of the Townsend big-eared bat. We saw them! Only about 4 inches long, and extremely shy.
- Hiking Machete Ridge and the Balconies Cliffs.
- At the magnificent park entrance, the low red berries highlight the greenery.
- Incredible views revealed around every bend.
- Bear gulch reservoir was worth the early wake-up call.
- Buckeye, a kind of horse chestnut, was plentiful. Most of these trees are found in Ohio, which is why it’s called the Buckeye state.
- There’s no one else I’d rather be with today. My favorite veteran.
