Canyonlands National Park has a section called the “Maze” which is known to be rugged and remote. Visitors must be prepared for self-sufficiency and isolation. That’s why we turned back after one night, as we’d used up so much fuel in 4WD that we wouldn’t have made it back out of the park. If we’d run out, it could have been days before anyone found us, because it’s a MAZE. Next time: better planning, extra fuel and warmer sleeping bags.
- There was SO MUCH jeeping on this trip. As in eight hours a day, often at one mile an hour.
- Overlooking our destination for tomorrow.
- It has been a while since we’ve camped – how does this tent go?
- The Maze in a blush of morning glory.
- Park rangers now tell you NOT to make cairns. They prefer to be in charge of the trail marking rockery, thank you.
- A long and winding road. We didn’t see another soul for two days.
