Nice is normally crowded in the summer, but because of the attacks, tourism was down by 40%. We enjoyed being there with some elbow room.
- Just a little French seaside villa of Ephrussi de Rothschild, of the banking family.
- A banking heiress, she was born into a “limitless horizon of wealth”. She built the villa in 1905.
- Don’t you just love a maintenance free yard?
- Her passion for fine porcelain included this delicate soap dish candelabra.
- Delightfully playful fountains are choreographed to Schubert.
- A refreshing stop on a hot day.
- A scale model (look at the tiny people!) for The Mastaba, a Christo sculpture for Abu Dhabi, a city in the United Arab Emirates.
- A small sample of the final sculpture, yet to be built, will be a mosaic of 410,000 oil barrels rising out of the desert.
- A side benefit? Each of the empty 55 gallon barrels make fun “music” when you hit them.
- Old town in Nice.
- Pétanque is perhaps the sport closest to French hearts. Similar to bocce, like horseshoes with balls.
- Nice from above – the pebble beaches stretch for miles.
- Look at this incredibly beautiful blue jellyfish.
- My buddy Michèle, who bravely packed me a bottle of kombucha all the way from Paris.
- Picnic lunch on the sea. Bill, Michèle, me, Mike and Bob. Are we listing?
- Bill explaining that we should NOT have bananas on board a boat, because it causes bad luck fishing.
- Mike caught and released this black fin tuna. Good thing he didn’t touch those bananas!
- Checkmark on the Trip List Challenge 100 Things to See Before You Die!
- Pretty pebbles, but it hurts to walk on this beach.
- Our dear friend, Michèle, who thinks Nice pebble beaches being on a bucket list is crazy!
