Carnival in Cozumel is a SERIOUS party!! On Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Fat Tuesday – prior to the beginning of Lent, the locals dance, sing and drive huge floats up and down main street. The word “carnival” comes from the Latin “carne vale” which means farewell to meat, signifying the fasting days to come during Lent. Here in Cozumel, eating lobster is a pretty good substitute.

- The hot Latin music along with this dancing is played at eardrum splitting levels.
- This float was too tall for the power lines, so they brought along a wooden stick.
- ¡Ay, caramba! This stilt walker was letting it all hang out.
- Dancers taking a breather near some accidentally suggestive lighting.
- The sexy costumes are started at a very young age.
- And now a special notice for the people making the costumes (as opposed to customers).
- Santa made a surprise appearance at the end of the parade. He should be on vacation, but at least he’s somewhere warm.
