Bonaire has a sleepy quality. It’s outside the hurricane belt, and isn’t developed with major hotel chains. Life is simple here, with only 17,000 inhabitants and mostly diver tourism.

- Parents! Don’t let alcohol shatter your kid’s dreams of being a doctor or a police officer.
- No cats, dogs or hunky guys allowed.
- Turtle and iguana bread at the grocery store.
- Keep kids off the street – a concern the world over.
- Cactus is used for fencing to keep out goats and donkeys.
- Nasty cacti in Washington Park.
- Stop the car – it’s an iguana crossing!
