Our tour of the White House was a delight, even if it took 1 1/2 hours to make it through all the security screening. Throughout the White House, there are 62 trees and over 70,000 ornaments, decorated by hundreds of volunteers. That’s a long way from the very first Christmas tree in the White House, decorated by First Lady Caroline Harrison in 1889.
- The White House decked out in holiday splendor.
- High security around the white house, including a new double fence and substantial K-9 presence.
- Sharpshooter on the roof. The flag is at half staff due to the San Bernadino terrorist attack.
- Additional spikes have been added to the White House fence, to avoid uninvited drop in guests.
- This anti-nuclear protest has been across from the White House 24×7, since 1981.
- Martha Washington graces the wall in the East Room.
- Presidential glassware (not crystal) from Abraham Lincoln.
- Lincoln pondering this newfangled tree made of candy canes.
- Bubblegum snowglobe!
- Bush and Clinton flank the exit, two dynasties staring each other down.
- Did you notice they have almost exactly the same pose?
- The Armed Forces tree, decorated with messages from families of fallen heroes.
- A loving tribute for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
- How about a 500 lb. gingerbread White House? Love the dark chocolate icing.
- Outside, 56 “snow people”, represent the number of states and territories in the US.
