Our Seattle trip was highlighted by a great outdoor dinner party to raise donations for the National Park Service, in honor of their upcoming centennial. Each of the 50 guests was asked for a story from their favorite national park. As part of that evening, we got to chat with Sally Jewell, who is the current Secretary of the Interior, on President Obama’s cabinet. Before that, she was the CEO of REI, and before that, she used to work at Rainier Bank, with Mike and I. We’ve been proudly cheering on her career, but hadn’t seen her in years. She’s still warm, witty and whip smart.
