Sweet corn in the midwest is a treat more like dessert that a vegetable. The Quad City area (northwest Illinois and southwest Iowa) is right in the corn belt, and the headquarters of John Deere. That precise shade of green and yellow says “John Deere” from miles away. Farmers here are as loyal to John Deere as any rabid car owner you’ve ever met.
- Today’s harvester looks more like a space station than farm equipment. That’s me in the capsule, er… cab at the John Deere Pavilion.
- Fields of corn as far as the eye can see.
- Tractor of the future – look Ma, no driver! This tractor can plant around the clock using GPS technology.
- Al brought the sweet corn. Mike did his job, eating 12 ears.
- Sunset over even MORE cornfields.
- Little nephews and nieces enjoying the amateur fireworks.
- Snickers salad (I’m not making this up) has whipped cream, green apples and Snickers. Dessert or salad?
- Pumpkin, the little red haired kitten was a new addition to the family in Illinois.
- We drove through corn fields for hours. This specimen looks more recreational somehow!!
