We always learn so much at the POPA (Pilatus Owners and Pilots Association) convention. Three days of geeking out on plane stuff – best practices, unique flights and new developments. It’s great way to meet other pilots, too, including the modern day Amelia Earhart!
- Phoenix police bought a Pilatus PC-12 and added high tech surveillance and thermal imaging cameras. They can downlink images to police on the ground. Tough luck, bad guys!
- Hypoxia is what happens to your body if you don’t have enough oxygen. Just in case we lose cabin pressure, we know what to expect.
- Pilatus is headquartered in Switzerland, so of course the Swiss brought over an Alphorn with them to auction off.
- Taking a horse drawn carriage to our dinner at Tamaya, just north of Albuquerque.
- The sunkissed Sandia Mountains at sunset.
- Amelia Earhart (no relation to the historical pilot), took a plane exactly like ours and flew it around the world last year.
- Amelia Earhart and our friend (and her copilot) Shane Jordan.
- The Pilatus flying over Howland, the island that Amelia Earhart was navigating to when her plane was lost in 1937.
- Chatting it up with Amelia. She’s started the Fly with Amelia Foundation, which provides flight training scholarships for girls.
