Translation: “We, the bones that are here,
await yours.”
The chapel was built in the 16th century
by a Franciscan monk who wanted to prod
his brothers into contemplation about the
transitory nature of life.
The skulls and bones used were those of monks
whose graves were moved to build the chapel.
