We had our picnic lunch in the truck
about 20 ft. from this pride of lions!
Note the older lioness on the right, fitted
with a radio collar for scientists to keep
track of the pride.
Strong teeth are important to survival.
When old lions lose their teeth, they are
shunned from the pride and eventually
starve to death.  It’s a jungle out there.

Lions live about 14 years in the wild.
“Hey, there’s still meat left on that bone!”
The male lion’s job is to protect the pride,
fighting off carnivores after the cubs or fighting
other male lions for dominance.
The lioness was definitely the hardest working
mother we saw.  She does the hunting, and
watches after cubs that seem to hardly ever
sleep!  This one is trying to catch a wink.
