African elephants are the largest living terrestrial
animals.  Those huge ears provide air
conditioning.  At the end of the trunk are two
opposing lips – Asian elephants have only
one lip.
Elephants are herbivores, eating as much as 500
pounds per day – 30 to 40% of which
is undigested.  Not too efficient!  They love
to shake trees for seed pods and leaves.
Elephants are slow movers, and co-exist
peacefully with birds other wildlife. In fact,

birds love to follow elephant footsteps
because they kick up good bugs to eat.
Trees devistated by elephants look like
a mess, but downed branches provide
habitat for small animals.  Elephants

love to eat the tender inner bark.
Bravely avoiding any pythons in the tall grass!
