Huge lava flows leave miles of black as far as the
eye can see.  The Big Island airport at Kona is
like landing in an ashtray.  Desolate and stunningly beautiful at the same time.
Along the south shore, beautiful archways
created by the ocean beating against the lava.
Along Queen K highway, there are thousands of
sayings spelled out in white coral against the black
lava.  It’s a sweet form of graffiti, everything from
 memorials to marriage proposals.
