Just about 30 miles south of Vegas lies the largest reservoir in the US. Lake Mead was formed in the mid 1930’s when the Hoover Dam (aka Boulder Dam) was created to harness the power of the mighty Colorado River.
Lake Mead is huge – 112 miles long, and home to rocky shores and bighorn sheep. Water is now at a historical low – note the “bathtub ring” of white rock next to the water showing where the water level used to be before the current draught conditions.
