The scale of the temples seems to increase with each one we see. Karnak Temple, in Luxor (central Egypt) is the largest temple supported by columns in the world. It is approximately half the size of Manhattan. It exceeds the size of Notre Dame in Paris!

It was built not by one king, but over 30 pharaohs, from 1391 B.C. to 393 A.D.  Each one added his own section during his lifetime.

In it’s heyday, over 80,000 people worked at or around the temple as guards, servants, and priests. An open air museum, with floors of smooth cool alabaster, engraved with faces of enemies, so the king could tread over his enemies’ faces.
