Where? Morocco is in northwest Africa, really close to Spain, which is just across the straight of Gibraltar, on the Atlantic ocean.

Language? They speak Arabic and French. Almost all signs are in both languages.

Food? Seafood, lamb, couscous, raisins, olives, lemon. The bread is amazing here – must be the French influence. And sugar!! Moroccans eat more sugar per capita than any other country. They put sugar on couscous, sugar on fish, desserts go on and on…

People? Friendly, but this is not a tourist hot spot. Still donkeys on the road in many places, really quite a simple life. Pictured here are a street musician, with a tassel on his cap that he spins in a circle while he plays. The other is a traditional waterman, who would ring his bell and wear this bright clothing at the edge of the desert to let you know his location. Then he would sell you a drink of water out of the brass bowls, and fresh out of his goatskin pouch. Yummy!
