We’re in northern Chile, so far north we can see Bolivia in the distance. We’re in the Atacama Desert http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/samerica/cl.htm along the west coast. It is SO dry here. How dry? Bars of soap dry completely in an hour. Sliced bread is crusty like toast. You have to drink water constantly because you can hardly tell that you’re sweating. It’s warm and very sunny here – above 80 during the day and cooling down to about 50 at night. We’re also at a high elevation, and hike to even higher ones during the day so the sun is really intense.

Our lodge, Explora, is high activity central. They brief you each night on available guided activities for the next day. Hiking, horseback rides, biking, they even have an observatory for star gazing.
