Mike’s nephew JR and his wife Nicole introduced us to a new sport – NHRA (National Hot Rod Racing Association) or stock car races. It was SO loud that when we went golfing later, we could still hear the cars 12 miles away. Yes, we wore earplugs – everyone there does – we even saw small babies with huge headphones on. The thunder you feel in your bones is tremendous, quite a thrill really.

Did you know?

– These cars can go from 0 to 100 MPH in .8 seconds (the first 60 feet)

– NHRA top fuel dragsters accelerate quicker than any other land vehicle on earth – quicker than a jet fighter…quicker than the space shuttle.

– Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second…the same as a fully loaded 747, but the 747 produces 25% less energy.

– Dragsters reach over 300 mph before you have completed reading this sentence.
