Every year in CB on the Autumnal Equinox, the ceremonial “Grump” is burned by the townspeople along with little slips of paper where they’ve written things they want to let go of, or some such thing. There are maidens and torchbearers, speeches and marching. (And a little drinking and dancing, too.) Then everyone chants “BURN THE GRUMP!!” over and over as they march down the street about a mile and feed the grump to a huge bonfire. Biggest bonfire I’ve ever seen, we had to check and make sure we still had our eyebrows.
