Our first impression was wow! Bigger than we thought! Dense high rises, a booming construction industry. After a few days? It's a weird place. The infrastructure is woefully inadequate. Traffic is constant, honking is a hobby. Crazy drivers, old school busses provide mass transit. It's a city best viewed from afar, across the water through a gauzy lens. It's a city of sharply divided haves and have nots. Poverty is rampant just 5 minutes out of the downtown core. There doesn't seem to be much of a middle class, hopefully that will change over time. The canal is being expanded by 2014, which will provide increased revenue. And jobs.
