Flying over the North Cascades

We took in this spectacular view from the plane on the way back from Sun Peaks to Seattle. The North Cascade Mountain range spans the border between British Columbia, Canada and Washington state. It's 20 minutes of heavenly views from the plane in every direction. The peak in the back is Mt. Baker, at 10,778 ft.

When you're flying a small airplane, you set a flight plan with U.S. Customs before you take off. Air traffic control keeps very close tabs on small planes crossing over the border, and U.S. Customs officers meet your plane when you land. Captain Raney did a fine job!

Hiking in Sun Peaks, BC

We took the ski lift up mid-mountain and started hiking...and ran into our friend the bear, who was lumbering around sniffing all the wildflowers. He very politely posed for the photo shoot - and then we scampered back up the hill!

Seattle Kayak at Lake Union

Here we are in front of the "Sleepless in Seattle" houseboat made famous in the movie. It's charming!

Lincoln City, OR

Beachfront house at Roads End. Not enough wind to hold up a kite, which made the beach really pleasant for play and about 10 degrees cooler than the "heat wave" of high 80's in Seattle. Mike has granddaughter Alana on his shoulders.
